What are the different types of Hair Extensions?

Clip-in Hair Extensions or Halo

Clip-ins and Halos are the most temporary type of extensions, they either clip in or attach with a string similar to a headband around the head. These are great for special events or a day you’re just trying to add a little oomph to your hair.

Tape-in Hair Extensions

Tape-in extensions are the quickest and easiest option for something a little bit more permanent. It’s great for adding both length and volume. They are lightweight on the hair so they are a great option for all hair types. They have to be removed and replaced every four to eight weeks and the hair will last three to six months depending on how well it is taken care of.

Hand-Tied Hair Extensions

Hand-Tied extensions are a great way to add a lot of volume and length. They are installed by placing beads in your natural hair to create a base that the weft is then sewn onto. This method can tend to be a bit heavier on the hair so it is not always a good option for extra fine hair but it can still be done. These extensions need to be reinstalled every six to ten weeks and the wefts of hair need to be replaced every six to twelve months depending on care.

Keratin-Tip (Individual)

Keratin-Tip or can also be called Individual Extensions are the most natural looking because they are so customizable. The size of the hair placed on the head can be cut to match the density of the hair making it a suitable option for all hair types. This method lasts three to six months depending on at home care but the hair has to be replaced every time.

How Do You Care for Hair Extensions?

It is important to treat extensions like your natural hair and keep up with your normal haircare routine. Things to ensure you’re taking great care of the hair is brushing twice a day, so there is no matting, and doing regular masks and treatments. It’s also important to not go to bed with wet hair and it’s best to sleep with hair in a braid or use a silk pillowcase.

Do Extensions Damage Your Natural Hair?

When put in and taken care of properly, hair extensions can actually be a protective style for your hair and allow it to grow. In order to make sure that extensions are done properly it is important to go to someone who is certified in the method you are looking for.
